The place succeeds in retaining the natural charms and it does so beautifully. Even the early morning Yoga sessions are great. The rooms may lack some standard amenities but you realize that you don't need them at all.
The word 'Dewalokam' literally means 'paradise'. The retreat aims to retain the natural environment and charm. The organic farm in Dewalokam is the ancestral farm of Alilakuzhy family, an ancient Syrian Christian family of Kerala. The farm is used to produce fruits and vegetables, milk and honey all of which are produced organically without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. The professional chefs in Dewalokam prepare delightful meals for the guests. The chefs are also ready to prepare food that you personally want.
Dewalokam is tucked away beyond commercial rubber plantations in a secluded haven. The retreat is bound by a beautiful river and a serene nature reserve. You can choose either to be active or just relax during your stay. There are hammocks dotted amidst the tress and also a freshwater pool. The water is heated with solar power, vegetables grown with home-made compost, chickens and goats fed on vegetable waste and methane from the cow's manure is recovered to provide gas for cooking.
There are eight spacious air-conditioned rooms in the main guest house of Dewalokam. From the rooms, you get the view of the river and forest beyond the Nilgiri Mountains.
The traditional house of Dewalokam is in the forest area. The house has three twin bedded rooms having an open-air shower set in a lovely inner courtyard.
