Kovalam is famous worldwide for its three adjacent beaches, (1)The Light House Beach, (2)Hawah Beach and (3)Samudra Beach. The town has been the Europeans' favoured hideout since the 1930's. The beaches at Kovalam offer plenty of leisure activities that include special cultural programmes, herbal body toning massages, catamaran cruising and swimming. The beach gets busy late in the day and stays busy until late in the night.

Accommodation facilities at Kovalam range from budget hotels to five star hotels. There are a string of cottages at the beach itself along with Ayurvedic resorts, shopping centres and restaurants serving Continental and South Indian dishes. Just 16 kilometres away from Kovalam is the centre of Thiruvanthapuram. Tourists can stay at Kovalam and visit the city without any trouble to see interesting places like Napier Museum, Sri Chitra Art Gallery, Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Ponmudi hill station.
