The town was discovered by the British who found the place perfect for tea plantations and later Christian missionaries stayed in Vagamon building their abode of service at Kurisumala in Vagamon.
The town is full of green valleys, waterfalls and fascinating pine forests that make you fall in love with nature. The region also has a wide range of rare flowers and orchids. Tourists have an opportunity to trek across the chain of three hills - the Thangal hill, the Murugan hill and the Kurisumala, significant for Muslims, Hindus and Christians respectively.
