Valparai is a pleasant and beautiful hill station in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. Valparai is a cool and breezy hill station lying in the Anamalai hills of the Western Ghats. The town belongs to the district of Coimbatore. It is believed that a person named Ramasamy Mudaliyar started planting coffee here in 1846. Today, coffee and tea plantations cover most of Valparai making the place look extremely beautiful and scenic. The hill station is home to many elephants, quite a few leopards and also endangered species like The Nilgiri Tahr.
Valparai is one of the few hill stations that have so many dams. Some of the famous dams in the town are Aaliyar dam, Sholayar Dam and Nirar dam. Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park is a well known park near Valparai which has a place called Grass Hills, a spectacular site having mountain slopes covered with lush green grass. Since Valparai is one of the wettest places in India, the waterfalls like Monkey falls and Chinnakallar falls located in the region are wonderful to look at.
