You must visit the zoo before 11:00 AM or after 3:00 PM to get the best experience. On weekends and holidays, the zoo has a lot of visitors and parking becomes difficult. Detailed Info

Mysore Zoo, also known as 'Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens', is one of the oldest zoos in India. The 157-acre zoo features a wide variety of birds and animals including elephants, green anacondas, giraffes, zebras, lions, tigers, crocodiles, white rhinoceroses, and baboons. The Mysore Zoo was created in 1892 on 10 acres of Maharaja Sri Chamaraja Wodeyar's summer palace. It was gradually expanded and later opened to public in 1902. When the zoo completed a century in 1992, several renovations were made to the zoo and new buildings were added. The Karanji Lake is situated on the eastern side of the zoo.

The zoo remains open from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. But from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the animals are not very active because of the heat. So it is best to visit the zoo before 11:00 AM or after 3:00 PM. The zoo usually gets crowded during weekends and government holidays. If you happen to visit the zoo at this time, it is best to reach the zoo as early as possible. The zoo remains closed on Tuesdays.

The zoo ticket costs INR 50 for adults and INR 20 for children. But on weekends and government holidays, the ticket costs INR 60 for adults and INR 30 for kids. You can choose to take the zoo's battery-operated vehicle so that you can cover the zoo in less time.
