Travellers who cannot afford to spend more time in the sanctuary can opt for this. You get a beautiful view of nature in a short stint of time and an excellent opportunity for nature photography. Although you might not sight a single animal, you enjoy the walk itself because of the atmosphere.

We kindly request our guests to respect the pristine environment. Please do not litter or feed the animals. In order for you to enjoy a safe trip, please stay a little away from the animals and do not cause them any indirect harm.

PROS

  • The trip is not very long.
  • The atmosphere throughout the walk is serene.
  • The walk through the woods is quite thrilling.

CONS

  • You cannot be sure that you will spot animals.

Detailed Info

The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady is a highly protected bio-diverse land spread over 925 sq. km. Periyar Tiger reserve is one of the 48 Tiger Reserves in India. Two main Rivers Periyar and Pamba flow through this region. It is located in the Cardamom Hills which is on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The Photography/Nature walk trail takes the visitors through Grasslands, tropical evergreen woods and moist deciduous forests.

The walking trail is 5 kms long. The activity is divided into 6 time slots, one group at a time. Each group has a maximum of 6 persons. One guide will accompany the group. This route passes through the boat landing place as well. In this particular walk, the visitors get to witness the pristine beauty of woods and the wild animals. Be prepared to encounter wild animals even if it’s a short walk. Photo opportunities are more inside the woods, near the lake.
