Detailed Info

Top Station, located 32 kms from Munnar, is the highest point in the Munnar-Kodaikanal highway and can be reached by cabs. The entry point offers an excellent view. Upon getting the entry ticket one has to climb down through the stairs and walk more than half a kilometre. The view point looks upon the valley of Theni district.

Top Station is the best view point of Munnar. Top Station got its name because of the fact that it was the top most point of the Ariel Ropeway and the last railway station on the Kundala valley. Tea chests from Top Station were transported to Kottagudi that is 5 kms down the hill through a Ropeway. The remains of the Ropeway can also be seen from this point. During late mornings and afternoons, the clouds might be clear and a beautiful and serene view of Theni Valley in Tamil Nadu can be seen. Breathtaking views of gigantic hills and lush green valleys leave the visitors mesmerized.

Top Station is a famous place for sighting Neelakurinji (Strobilanthus) flowers which bloom once in every twelve years. The view of bluish flowers in the valley surrounded by greenish tea plantations and the brownish rock terrain of the mountain is a must watch. The next flowering season for Neelakurinji here is 2018. The valley is mostly covered by fog and to stand there amidst the fog is just an amazing experience.

The climb back to the entry point is hectic as the terrain is steep. But for nature enthusiasts, Top Station should be a must-visit place in their itinerary. There are make shift fruit stalls and tea stalls available for small refreshments. The District Tourism Promotion Council, Idukki conducts Tea-Valley tour in which the Top Station is also covered.
