Editor's Review

The Valara waterfalls looks best right after the monsoon season. Since it is located along the main road, you can easily stop your car and just check it out without having to take out some extra time particularly for it. Although the place around the waterfalls is not very clean, you still enjoy the views. You can even go under the falls but you need to be careful while doing that.

PROS

  • The view is great making it a great photo point.
  • Travellers can enjoy the waterfall very closely and can take a shower under the falls.
  • Travellers can enjoy both the falls from the road itself.
  • Enough space to park the vehicle.
  • There are a lot of shops nearby to buy refreshments.

CONS

  • It is risky to get into the waterfall past the protective fence as the rocks are slippery
  • Water might be less during summer season.
  • The place is not well-maintained.

Valara is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of 300 feet through rocky slopes amidst the dense green forests, creating an extraordinary sight to the travellers. This cascade is created by River Deviyar as it plummets down a huge rock. Water jumps down from one rocky slab to the next thus creating several layers. Valara Falls nose-dive into a forested ravine below the road which is a very impressive sight. Valara waterfalls are surrounded by lush, dense forests that are home to a wide variety of small animals and birds. The Thottiyar Hydro Electric Project, an upcoming project by Kerala State Electricity Board is very close to this waterfall.

The quaint and serene environ surrounding the magnificent waterfall is also considered to provide an ideal habitat for many rare and exotic animals and birds. The waterfall retains its charm throughout the year but during the summer season, the volume of water here is slightly lower. Since the waterfalls are located amidst thick jungles, reaching close to the waterfall is quite challenging and you may require experts to guide you. Just 1 km away from Valara Waterfalls is another popular waterfall called Cheeyappara falls which gives tourist another reason to rejoice.
