Chembra is located near the town of Meppady and is 8 kms south of Kalpetta. It is part of the Wayanad hill ranges in Western Ghats, adjoining the Nilgiri Hills in Tamil Nadu and Vellarimala in the Kozhikode district of Kerala. At a height of 2,100 metres above sea level Chembra is the tallest peak in Wayanad and is an ideal area for trekking. The heart-shaped lake on the way to the top of the peak, which is believed to have never dried up, is a major tourist attraction here. With permission from the Forest Department, one-day treks and two-day wildlife treks are possible. You can have group treks of up to ten people or hike on your own, accompanied by a guide.

There are lots of bus services, both government and private, to reach Chembra. You can get down at Kalpetta and from there to Chembra. From the town of Meppady you can reach the peak through walking.

The Chembra Peak is ideal for an amazing trekking experience, especially for groups. The place is quite green and beautiful. The heart-shaped lake adds to the beauty. The view from the top is simply fantastic. The atmosphere is serene and you will find the place to be clean too.

Chembra is located near the town of Meppady and is 8 kms south of Kalpetta. It is part of the Wayanad hill ranges in Western Ghats, adjoining the Nilgiri Hills in Tamil Nadu and Vellarimala in Kozhikode district in Kerala. If you are an admirer of soothing natural beauty and love to have an adventure trip, then Chembra Peak will be a perfect stop for you. The peak is visible from almost all parts of Wayanad.

If you are nature lover then you have to visit Chembra Peak.This place is an ideal destination for trekking and mountain climbing. You have to take prior permission from the Meppady forest office before going for a trek at Chembra Peak. The forest office will be open on all days. Temporary camps have been set up on the top of this peak for providing accommodation to mountain climbers. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) offers sleeping bags, canvas, log huts, guides and trekking equipment.

There are two options here, one you can visit the check-post and come back for which the ticket is INR 100 per person and the other option is you have to trek 4 kms from the check-post for which the ticket cost is INR 500 (for 10) as you will be provided with a guide. If you prefer trekking, the timing for Chembra Peak is 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM and for the check post visit is 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The maximum time it will take for you to trek and come back is 4 hours.

It will take at least three hours to reach the top point of Chembra peak. There is a heart-shaped lake on the way to the top of the peak, which is believed to have never dried up. It is one of the topmost attractions of this peak. This lake is known as 'hridhayathadakam'. The lake is 4500 feet above sea level. From the top of the peak, you will get amazed with the enthralling beauty of the nature here. You can also sight Kozhikode, Malappuram and Niligiri districts from here. Beyond a point, no one is allowed to take the vehicle inside. Initial trail begins with plain walk through tree estates for 15 minutes. Then you reach a checkpoint beyond which no one is allowed to take plastic bottles, paper, food etc. If you still want to take these with you, you will have to deposit INR 100 per bottle. While returning, you can recount the bottles at the check point and you will get the refund.
