Detailed Info

The Mananchira Lake was built in the 14th century as a bathing pool by a feudal ruler in Kozhikode. Its architectural design and structure is just as it was many centuries ago. The Mananchira Square is a beautiful park built around this lake. It has large green lawns, fascinating sculptures, Kerala-style buildings, an open-air theatre and a musical fountain. The lawns have trees, plants and shrubs that add to the pleasant environment of the park.

Bordered by a laterite-sculpted wall, the entire park is blanketed with lush green grass.  It has 250 lamp posts and an artificial stream. The park offers wonderful opportunities for picnics and pleasant walks. Travellers interested in culture would be amused looking at the sculptures and buildings in the park. Some of the sculptures in the park are of V.K.Krishna Menon, Pathummayude Aadu, Jacek Tylicki and a dinosaur. The town hall, public library and art gallery are located close to the park. There are quite a few cultural events held in the park.
