The Government Botanical Garden in Ooty has a great variety of beautiful flowers. The wonderful arrangement of the colourful flowers is a treat to the eyes. The place can offer many good opportunities for taking nice pictures. You can enjoy your visit to the full if you come here when it is not very crowded.

Situated at an elevation of about 2500 metres above sea level on the slopes of the Doddapetta Peak, the Government Botanical Garden is a must-visit attraction in Ooty. The garden, divided into five sections, covers a vast area of about 55 acres. It has a terraced layout. It was originally laid out in 1848 and over time, it has undergone several major changes. Today, it is one of the most beautiful gardens in the entire country.

The five sections of the garden are named Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory and Nursery. The Lower Garden has beautiful lawns and a fern house which is home to 127 species of ferns. The New Garden has a pond, rose garden and many majestic trees. The Italian Garden has colourful flowers laid out in a unique Italian pattern. The Conservatory is home to marsh plants and attractive flowers. The Nursery has eight glass houses and terrace gardens featuring exotic plants. An amazing flower show is arranged in this section. The show takes place in the summer season.

The most significant attraction in the garden is the fossil tree trunk which is estimated to be 20 million years old. It is at the centre of the garden. The Toda Hill in the garden is also very famous. It showcases the history of the native tribes of Ooty.
