The Silent Valley National Park is a huge area of raw natural beauty. There are many varieties of flora and fauna at the park. So there is a high chance of spotting many birds and animals. You will enjoy the treks and the viewpoints at the park. The most thrilling part of your visit would be when you walk over the hanging bridge and look at the river under you. The view is simply fantastic.

Detailed Info

With an area of 237 sq km (92 sq miles), the Silent Valley National Park is the second largest national park in the state of Kerala. It is a hidden treasure located amidst the Nilgiri Hills in the district of Palakkad. The beautiful Kuntipuzha River that runs throughout the length of the park along the long narrow bridge over the river creates a beautiful scene. In order to explore the park, tourists must hire a jeep at the park's entrance. It takes about 5 hours to cover the park on the jeep. At once, the jeep can take 5 people. Inside the park, there are many trekking routes.

There are about 16 species of birds at the park. Some of them are Nilgiri Wood-Pigeon, Malabar Parakeet, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Ceylon Frogmouth, Great Indian Hornbill and White-Bellied Treepie. And there are about 24 species of mammals. Some of them are lion-tailed macaque, Niligiri langur, Malabar giant squirrel, Nilgiri tahr, tiger, elephant and leopard. Apart from the birds and animals, the park is home to more than a 1000 species of flowering plants and majestic trees. There are hundreds of varieties of moths, insects and butterflies as well.
