Sentinel Rock Waterfalls also known as Soochipara Waterfalls in Wayanad is one of the biggest waterfalls in Kerala. The view and sound of the Soochipara Falls is really mesmerizing. We can hear the sound of the falls as we walk towards it through the 3 km long path in the forest. The water here cascades down from a height of 100 to 200 ft and this waterfall is an ideal place for trekking and rock climbing. There is a natural pool created below the falls and it entices the visitors with cool clear water to take a dip in it. The pool beneath the waterfall has facilities for rafting, bathing and other recreational water activities. You will find a number of tree huts in the area, which provide amazing views of the Western Ghats. There are a number of springs and shallow pools of water in the area.

The nearest location from which we can reach the Soochipara Falls is Meppadi area. It is about 20 minutes drive from Meppadi. The destination is well connected to nearby places. So, you will not find any difficulty to reach here.

The Soochipara waterfall is Wayanad gives a beautiful view. You can expect that because it is one of the prominent waterfalls in Kerala. The natural pool below that waterfall gives you an opportunity to swim and also take part in other water activities. The main problem is that you need to do a lot of walking to reach the waterfall.

  • It is possible to swim in the pool.
  • Ideal place to get good pictures.
  • Connectivity is good.
  • There are a lot of places to eat nearby.

CONS

  • There might be quite a few leeches.
  • Elderly people can find it difficult to traverse.
  • One has to walk for about 2 kms from parking to view the falls.
  • There are no changing/wash rooms.

Sentinel Rock Waterfalls is located in the Wayanad district of Kerala. Sentinel Rock Waterfalls also known as Soochipara Waterfalls is one of the biggest waterfalls in Kerala. The name Soochipara is derived from the words ‘soochi’ and ‘para’ meaning ‘rock’ and ‘needle’. The name given is apt as you can see a needle shaped rock here. Soochipara waterfall is a three tiered waterfall. This waterfall is surrounded by a dense green forest and it comprises of 3 stretches all of which end up in the Chaliyar River. To reach the falls, you will have to go through a very pretty trekking trail that runs through tea gardens, rocky outcrops and dense forests. There are a number of holiday home-stay options available here as well. The longest, but the easier trek is till you reach the first level of the waterfall. Climbing up to the second and third ranges is rather risky and not recommended.

A 20 minute drive from Meppadi in Wayanad will take you to this splendid waterfall. You have to walk around 2 kms to reach the waterfall, where vehicles can’t go. You have to pay an entry fee for entrance and camera. From the entrance you need to descend down to reach the falls. The view and sound of the Soochipara Falls is really mesmerizing. Best time to visit Soochipara waterfall is during the monsoon season as you can see the waterfall at its fullest.

The waterfall is located on Kozhikode - Vythiri - Gudallur Highway about 25 kms from Kalpetta in Wayanad and a 30-minute drive from Meppady through the winding roads amidst tea plantations and natural forests will take you to this breathtaking waterfall.  Situated near Vellarimala village near Chooralmala, the location of waterfall offers a scenic view of the tea estates of Wayanad.
