Editor's Review

Vazhachal falls is a beautiful waterfall enjoying a splendid forest backdrop. Unlike the Athirapilly Waterfalls, the Vazhachal falls is not a waterfall flowing from a great height but it is actually a river flowing downhill with a lot of speed. The place around the waterfall is ideal for picnics since it is not very overcrowded and the natural beauty is amazing. You should visit this place after the monsoon season ends.

Detailed Info

Vazhachal falls belongs to the Chalakudy river stream that flows through the Vazhachal forest division. Located 5 km away from the entrance of the famous Athirapilly Waterfalls in Thrissur, the Vazhachal falls is on the edge of the Sholayar ranges. While the Athirapilly Waterfalls is famous for its magnificent height, the Vazhachal falls attracts tourists because of its thick forest backdrop. The forest division close to the waterfalls is home to many endangered species of flora and fauna. The natural beauty of the entire region makes this place worth visiting at least once.

Vazhachal falls is not a waterfall that flows from a spectacularly high place. In fact, it is just a strongly flowing river which becomes a visual treat because of the forest in the background and the huge rocks amidst the river. Since the water flows with great speed, it is dangerous to go close to it. Swimming is strictly prohibited. During the monsoon season, the river flow becomes too strong. So the best time to visit the place is after the monsoon season which ends in September. The months between September and February would be a great time. For your safety, you must always follow the guidelines of the forest officers. The entire region around the falls makes for an ideal picnic spot because of the lush greenery. You can spend some quality time with family and friends.

Moolika Vanitha Swasraya, a shop located to close to the Vazhachal falls, sells herbs, honey, herbal soaps, bamboo wall hangings and hats at a reasonable price.
